Indian Religions


India is well-known for its diversity. The diversity of India can be seen in the different religions. Major religions of India are Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Buddhism and Jainism. Despite of having different religions, people live with harmony in India. There are many festivals celebrated in India which are related to different religion. India’s culture and various religions express the feelings of brotherhood and love among the people. There are no boundations for anyone in the matter of religion. In India, people of all religions celebrate their festivals together with love and peace, which makes India a unique country. Whether its about lighting on Diwali, cheers on Christmas, sweets on Eid or the joy of Baisakhi, people of India participate in all the festivals to spread and share happiness.

Hinduism is considered to be the oldest religion in the whole world and also a dominant religion in India. After Islam and Christianity, Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion. Hinduism is also called as “Sanatan Dharma”. Today, Hinduism has become famous in all the countries. Many people of foreign countries have accepted Hinduism because of its popularity.

Christianity is also one of the most prominent religions of India. There are many famous churches in all over the world where the people of Christianity offer their prayers. The religion of Christians is also loved by all the people of other religions.

Islam is an another prominent religions in India. The festivals of Islam are celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. All the people of other religions also support Islam which shows the feeling of brotherhood. There are many mosques in India where Muslims offer their prayers. Many Hindus also visit the holy places of Muslims.

Sikhism is among the famous religions in India. Sikhs have sacrificed a lot for India. Contribution of Sikhs can never be ignored. Sikhs offer their prayers in Gurudwaras. Sikhs have played an important role in the development of our country. All the Gurudwaras in the world, serve food for free, for many people which makes Sikhism a respectable and honorable religion.

Buddhism is one of the most major religions in the world. After spreading in India, Buddhism also got popularity in Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and China. Teachings of Lord Buddha are the base of Buddhism.

Jainism is also an another popular religion of India. Jains are well-known as merchants and traders. The Jain population is high in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Jains offer their prayers to Vardhamana Mahavira. Temples of Jains look very beautiful and unique.

These all religions make India ‘a land of diversities’. Religion is a matter of philosophy of life and faith. Everyone in the world has the right to follow their religion and its customs. One should always respect other religions too. There are many holy places related to above religions. People love to visit their holy places to get blessings from their God.
