Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga Temple located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

India, the land of spiritual land is strongly believed to be spread through by the Lords (Kashi Vishwanath jyotirlinga), their deep imprints and a sense of divine presence, eternally available in the environment around. Varanasi is also called as Banaras or Kashi, a prominent place of supreme lord of the Universe, Lord Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath jyotirlinga). kashi Vishwanath jyotirlinga temple is located at the banks of Ganga in the Uttar Pradesh, in a state of North India. It is 320 Km. away from the South-east of the state capital of Lucknow, the city of Nawab.

Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga Temple is the most eminent place for Hindus which is situated at Kashi (Banaras). This holy place is famous by the name of Shiv Vishwanath Kashi, dedicated to Lord Shiva.  It is believed that in ancient Hindu thought, there are three fundamental states called evolution (Shrishthi), involution (samhara) and existence (sthiti).  They act in a cyclic process of perpetuity. Each one of the shapes is controlled by a Lord, named Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer); these three Lords are called the Trinity. Shiva is being the last to entire the cycle from where the new cycle starts, is known as Mahadev, the Supreme spirituality.


According to the scriptures, the earth was merged under water (Pralaya). This place is influence by Lord Shiva’s Trishul. It is considered that the one who come and die here, achieve liberation (Moksha). Lord Shiva accords the Tarak Mantra to a person who dies here. The person who prays and worships Vishweshwar with dedication can achieve all his desires of happiness and liberation, and one who persistently performs his name earns all siddhis and finally gets Moksha.

This place located at the mid of the busy lanes of Varanasi. This sacred temple of Vishwanatha is surrounded by many subsidiary shrines. There is a beautiful well, called Jnana Vapi which means wisdom well. It is located to the north direction of main temple. Some other temples like Lord Vishnu temple, Goddess Virupakshi Gauri temple, and the Lord Avimukta Vinayaka temple are also situated here.

A group of five lingas surrounded in a temple which is called Nilkantheshvar temple. There is a controversy related to the original Jyotirlinga at the place, which proposed that not the Vishwanatha is not the original Jyotirlinga, in fact, Avimukteshvara is the original one. The other lingas like kala Bhairava, kapileshvara, Dandapanisvara, Vaikuntheshvara, Mahakala, Nikumbheshvara, Kubereshvara accept the names of Yakshas. There are also some images of Vighneshvara Ganesha, Shringar Gauri, Saubhagya Gauri,  Savitri, Vyaseshvara etc. along with a group of little lingas to the north which is called the court of Vishwanatha.

The Vishwanatha temple dwells of a mandapa and a sanctum. Though the interior of the temple is not large it has elaborated through the presence of peaceful atmosphere ideal for devotion.
