There are many stories about the derivation of Holy Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi. But most of the people believe that about 700 years ago, a Holy shrine was discovered by Pandit Shridhar. Pandit Shridhar once organized a ‘bhandaara’ in which Mata Vaishnavi helped him. But Mata Vaishnavi got disappeared from there to escape Bhairo Nath. Pandit Shridhar got very depressed and felt immense pain and grief. He stopped having water or food and also locked himself in a room. He prayed a lot for Mata Vaishnavi to appear again. Then, Mata Vaishno Devi appeared in his vision and informed him about the Holy Cave of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Mata Vaishno Devi told him in his dream about every devotional place which is very popular now like ‘Charan Paduka’, Sanchi Chaat, ‘Baan Ganga’, Haathi Matha’ and ‘Adhkwari’. Mata Vaishno Devi also blessed him for having four sons which had right to offer prayers to Devi till the end of the universe. After that, Pandit Shridhar went for searching the Holy Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi. He got success in reaching his destination. When he reached the top of Trikuta hills, he found rock form with three heads atop it. Mata Vaishno Devi asked Pandit Shridhar to spread the glory of that Holy Shrine in the whole world. Since the Pandit Shridhar spent his whole life at the service of Mata Vaishno Devi.
It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi is a very powerful Goddess and fulfills all the wishes of her devotees. Mata Vaishno Devi temple has no specific timings but it opens the whole week and throughout the year. “Aarti” is also performed there twice a day. Most of the devotees visit Mata Vaishno Devi temple in the peak season which starts from March end to June end. Pilgrims also visit there in a large number in the days of ‘Navratras’. The main and the old cave of Mata Vaishno Devi temple is opened for devotees during January and February.
